Federal government pulls plug on ecoENERGY Retrofit program
January 30, 2012.  The Conservative government has cancelled its $400-million ecoENERGY Retrofit program ahead of schedule, a move eco-building experts and environmentalists argue sends a dismal message about the country’s commitment to energy-efficient building.
 
RBC Centre becomes largest LEED-NC Certified project in Canada

Jan 2012.  The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited is proud to announce that the RBC Centre has attained LEED Gold Certification, becoming the largest certified LEED for New Construction project in Canada. This award marks a special accomplishment for RBC Centre, a 1.2 million square foot office tower in downtown Toronto. 

 
CaGBC Leadership Awards & Conference Call for Papers

The CaGBC Leadership awards recognize outstanding achievements in the green building industry and are now open for nominations.  (Nomination period ends Jan 24, 2012.)  We rely strongly on our Chapter Members' local knowledge and influence to support this awards program, which is an integral part of the CaGBC's National Conference.

What's Next TO? Breakout Session Summaries Now Available!

Chapter Members and green building professionals gathered on December 1 for a focused exploration of our region’s top issues and projects in the green building sector. We facilitated interactive breakout sessions to illicit and gather ideas about where our region is and where we're heading. We discussed various issues related to bike friendly design, carbon, Chapter initiatives, and many more. Feel free to send us additional feedback and stay tuned for other related events. ASHRAE + GTC Annual Dinner. Join us!
Join us and ASHRAE for our annual dinner on January 9 at Seneca's KIP Building, seeking LEED Gold certification. We will host a guided tour of the building which opened in September 2011, limited to 40 participants on a first come first serve basis. A detailed engineering presentation will then be provided to all guests by Tony Dingman, partner at Dialog (formally Cohos-Evamy) over a three course dinner in the KIP Building. Final version of Canadian Compliance Paths for LEED for Neighbourhood Development 2009 now available
December 14, 2011 - Ottawa, Ontario - The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) has finalized the Canadian Compliance Paths for the LEED for Neighbourhood Development 2009 rating system, and they are now available to the public online. These Alternative Compliance Paths (ACPs) were developed by the CaGBC to provide clarity and guidance for Canadian Neighbourhood Development projects, addressing sections of the rating system that contain US-specific standards or wording.
 
Square Footage of LEED-Certified Existing Buildings Surpasses New Construction
Dec 8, 2011.  The cumulative total of LEED-certified square footage for existing buildings now exceeds that of new construction for the first time in the history of the U.S. Green Building Council.
