Media Release

Toronto, ON, July 11, 2011

The Gala Committee for the Greater Toronto Chapter of the CaGBC is pleased to announce that the 2011 Annual Chapter Gala will be held on November 23, 2011.  Effective today, we are also launching our 2011 Gala Sponsorship Campaign!  Please click
on SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES to review the many benefits of sponsoring our Gala.

We are delighted to host this year’s Gala at the
Royal Conservatory TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning (RCM). The RCM was designed by Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects (KPMB), an internationally recognized Canadian firm. The TELUS Centre is also the recipient of the AIA/CAE Educational Facility Design Award of Excellence and is featured in the July 2011 issue of Architectural Record.

It is also our pleasure to announce that SPONSORS and VIPS will be treated to a special tour of Koerner Hall, led by partner-in-charge of the design of the TELUS Centre, Marianne McKenna.  Architectural critic Paul Goldberger praised McKenna’s work on the RCM in the New Yorker and in 2010 she was one of Canada’s TOP 100 Canada’s Most Powerful Women.

The Green Building industry recognizes the importance of addressing the viability of existing buildings in terms of sustainability and performance improvement.  In keeping with this current issue, our theme will focus on how the development of smart buildings makes it easy and profitable to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the built environment and will highlight how the building industry can play a key role in facilitating the much larger job of fostering a new, low-carbon society.  We are pleased to announce that our theme will be highlighted in an engaging discussion by our Keynote Speaker, Tom Rand, Senior Advisor, Cleantech, MaRS Discovery District.

In its ongoing effort to recognize excellence in fostering sustainable design, construction and management, the Chapter is also pleased to announce that an individual will be selected through a committee and jury process to receive an award for their outstanding contribution to the industry.  Dates for submissions will be announced in the near future.
