Welcome to the October issue of our Chapter Newsletter. We have a great deal to report on this month and an incredible series of events and programs that we’re sure you won’t want to miss. In this issue: Erosion and Sediment Workshop - November 16th Green Building Tour- November 10th November Chapter Meeting - November 19th LEED Workshop Volunteer Opportunities Available Life Cycle Costing for Green Building Design Workshop - November 19th Cities Alive 2009 - October 19th-21st Partners in Project Green & Seneca College - Sustainability Plan Internship Program ----------------------------- Erosion and Sediment Workshop - November 16th The Canada Green Building Council - Greater Toronto Chapter, in partnership with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, the University of Guelph, the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, and the Toronto and Region Remedial Action Plan invite you to register for the 1-day training course Understanding Erosion and Sediment Control , which is being offered on November 16, 2009. The course will provide practical training for professionals in the construction and development industries, including ESC designers, contract administrators, site inspectors, contractors, developers, and regulatory agency staff. Topics covered will include the fundamental principles of ESC, and the proper selection, installation, inspection and maintenance of best management practices
The course instructor is Shirley D. Morrow, a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) with over 16 years of experience in the industry. She is president of ABCs of BMPs, a company that provides classroom style ESC training and consulting services to various organizations across the U.S., including both government and the private sector. In March 2009, Shirley delivered a TRCA-hosted environmental monitor ESC training course and received a great deal of positive feedback from course participants.

Stay tuned! ----------------------------- Green Building Tour - November 10th On November 10th, 2009 the CaGBC- Greater Toronto Chapter will be hosting our second Green Building Tour! This is a great chance to explore 4 different LEED sites in the GTA! The bus tour will be leaving at 8:15AM from the Black Creek Pioneer Village and returning at 4:15PM. Pick up and drop off from Downsview Subway Station can be arranged if necessary. The tour will include the Bill Crother's Secondary school and the Honeywell building in Markham, as well as the Vaughan Fire Station and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority Restoration Services Building. Green features include: green roofs, storm management system, carbon dioxide sensors to match ventilation with occupancy, innovative HVAC technologies, photovoltaic system and more!! On November 19th the Canada Green Building Council - Greater Toronto Chapter will hold its Chapter meeting in partnership with York University from 5:30PM to 8:30PM at York University, Room Accolade West 109! Please check your email and/or our website: http://www.greenbuildingontario.ca ----------------------------- LEED Workshop Volunteer Opportunities Available The Canada Green Building Council – Greater Toronto Chapter is looking for 1(one) volunteer for each of the LEED workshops below. The volunteer will be required to be present at the location early on the day of the workshop and stay for the whole duration of the full day event. The volunteer, in addition to performing the administrative duties associated with the event, will be able to attend the seminar for free.

For the complete volunteer posting, please check the volunteer section on our website. ----------------------------- Life Cycle Costing for Green Building Design Workshop - November 19th The CaGBC-GTC, in partnership with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority will be offering a 1 day Life Cycle Costing for Green Building Design workshop on November 19th, 2009. The objective of this workshop is to introduce ASTM and ISO Building Economics Standards and impart to participants the necessary skills to apply the Life Cycle Costing (LCC) methodology to the evaluation and analysis of investments in buildings, specifically in the fields of energy efficiency and Green Buildings.The seminar, presented by Robert P. Charette, P.E., CVS, PQS (F), incorporates three progressive hands-on workshop sessions to gain experience in using the comprehensive Financial Tables provided and applying the LCC technique to the evaluation and analysis of investments in buildings related to energy efficiency and green buildings - calculations are simple and only standard calculators are required. Utilizing students from Seneca College's Green Business Management Program, Partners in Project Green will match you with a student that will help your organization:
Students will begin working on opportunities for your company during the Fall of 2009 and finalize a Corporate Sustainability Plan for your organization as part of their coursework in the Winter of 2009.
